Corner Cubes, also known as Corner Cube Reflectors, Trihedral Retro-reflectors, Trihedral Prisms, or Corner Cube Retro-reflectors, are most commonly used for alignment because light is always reflected back towards the source.

Why is it called "Corner Cube"? Imagine a knife cutting diagonally across a square block of glass

and then the "three-sided pyramid" is further cut with a cylinder. The diameter of the cutting cylinder determines the size of the Corner Cube Lens:
